Welcome to resumebank.biz: How Our Site Works and What It's Built On

September 26, 2026 · Craig Murray

resumebank.biz is a simple, focused place for job seekers and employers to find each other. We don't want to be another cluttered job board. Candidates get a clean public profile that shows off their resume. Employers get a fast way to post jobs and find talent. Both sides can talk directly on the site. This post covers what the site is for, what it does, how it works behind the scenes, and the technology it runs on.

OUR FOCUS

---------

We connect candidates and employers with as little friction as we can. That comes down to three ideas:

  1. Profiles that get found. Every candidate, company, and job gets its own clean, search-engine-friendly page, so people can find you through Google as well as through our own search.
  2. Direct connections. Employers can message candidates directly. There are no middlemen and no hidden inboxes.
  3. Smarter matching over time. We're building AI-assisted matching that compares resumes and job descriptions by meaning, not just by keywords.

FEATURES

--------

For Candidates

  1. A full public profile: your details, photo, and a formatted resume written in a built-in editor with bold, italics, headings, and bullet lists.
  2. Resume auto-fill. Upload your PDF or Word resume and we'll pre-fill the editor for you. For PDFs we keep headings, bold and italic text, and bullet points, so you don't have to retype everything.
  3. A required PDF resume plus up to three more files (portfolio, certifications, references), all downloadable from your profile.
  4. Thumbs up / thumbs down voting on job postings. Only candidates can vote, so the feedback comes from the people the jobs are meant for.
  5. "Match Jobs": paste in your resume and see open jobs ranked by how closely they fit.
  6. Full control. Only you can edit your profile, and you can delete it whenever you like.

For Employers

  1. A company profile with your logo and company details.
  2. Job postings, each with its own shareable page. Share buttons for X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and
  3. email are built in, plus a "Copy Link" button.
  4. "Match Candidates": paste in a job description and see candidates ranked by fit.
  5. Private sourced candidates. Add candidates you found yourself. They stay private to your company by default, and you can publish them later if you choose.
  6. Direct messaging with candidates, with unread counts in the navigation bar.

For Everyone

  1. One search page covering both candidates and jobs, with a simple toggle between them.
  2. Password reset by email for every account type.
  3. A blog (you're reading it!) for news, tips, and updates.

HOW IT WORKS

------------

Signing up

Candidates and employers each have their own sign-up. Candidates upload a PDF resume when they create their profile, and they can use the auto-fill tool to fill in the resume editor from that file.

Search

Search runs against live data, so a new profile or job posting can be found as soon as it's saved. A separate search index is also rebuilt every hour in the background.

Being found on Google

Every public candidate, company, and job page is built for search engines. A sitemap listing every page is regenerated daily, so search engines always have an up-to-date map of the site.

Messaging

Messaging is strictly between employers and candidates. Conversations are threaded, and new messages show up as an unread badge in the navigation bar.

AI matching (in development)

When a resume or job description is saved, the text is turned into an "embedding" in the background. An embedding is a list of numbers that captures what the text means. When you paste in a job description or resume on a Match page, we compare its embedding against every profile or job and show the closest matches with a similarity percentage. This runs in the background, so it never slows down saving your profile. If the matching engine is briefly unavailable, the rest of the site keeps working normally. The more profiles and jobs we have, the better the matches get.

Privacy and security

  1. Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text.
  2. Only the owner of a profile or job can edit it.
  3. Password reset links expire after one hour and work only once. A reset also signs out every existing session on the account.
  4. The forgot-password form never reveals whether an email address has an account.
  5. Deleting a profile requires re-entering your password. It removes the profile along with its files, votes, and messages.
  6. Private sourced candidates are visible only to the employer who added them. They are left out of search results, the sitemap, and AI matching.

THE TECH STACK

--------------

We chose simple, reliable, well-understood tools over trendy ones. Here's what runs the site:

Backend

  1. Go (Golang), using the standard library's net/http web server and html/template, templating. There's no heavy framework: the result is fast, and everything ships as a single compiled program.
  2. pgx (jackc/pgx v5) for talking to the database.
  3. bcrypt for password hashing.
  4. bluemonday for cleaning up rich-text content, so only safe HTML ever reaches the page.
  5. Go's built-in SMTP support for sending password-reset emails through any email provider.

Database

  1. PostgreSQL, the backbone for all profiles, jobs, messages, and votes.
  2. Built-in PostgreSQL full-text search powers the site search.
  3. The pgvector extension stores the AI embeddings and finds the closest matches.

AI / Matching

  1. Ollama, a self-hosted AI model server running the nomic-embed-text embedding model. Because we run it ourselves, your resume text is never sent to a third-party AI service to be matched.

Frontend

  1. Bootstrap 5 for a clean layout that works on phones and desktops.
  2. Quill.js as the rich-text editor for resumes, job descriptions, and blog posts.
  3. Plain share links rather than a third-party share widget, so there are no tracking scripts.

Hosting and Deployment

  1. Packaged as a Docker image, with the page templates and styling built into the program itself.
  2. Hosted on Railway, with persistent storage volumes for uploaded files and AI models.
  3. Database updates are applied automatically on each deploy.

Quality

  1. Automated tests using Go's standard testing package. They cover validation, permissions (making sure nobody can edit someone else's profile), search, messaging, and more.

WHAT'S NEXT

-----------

AI matching is still in development and will keep improving as more candidates and employers join. We're also listening closely to feedback. If there's a feature that would make your job search or hiring easier, let us know.
